Ode to the Stars

Like pearl-headed pins that hold up the firmament,

you hold my world in place.

Your glow is soft

        like a dove’s

                  wing

and your warmth a

          down feather,

holding back the

cold callous night.

You guide ships to shore and heroes to heaven.

You are the seashells in the sand and pebbles in the ocean.

When I look at you,

I see

        pixie dust

and

        dandelion fluff

and

       flurries of fireflies.

Your light is ancient and stories wise

reflected in so many different eyes

but when I look at you from my window at one

in the morning

you belong only to me.
