Azalea Festival Queen Patricia LeMay (L) holding the Norfolk Mace and being kissed by her father Gen. Curtis LeMay (R)

It could be a Victorian allegory:
Youth in the arms of Old Age,
Experience embraces Innocence.

She has azaleas on the bodice
of her pageant gown;
he has tiers of fruitcake
on the breast of his tunic
and four stars on the epaulet
that shows to camera.

Their faces are very close;
it seems he is whispering to her.
Because she is turned three-quarters to him,
her face demurely lowered,
we do not see the full family resemblance:
the widely set eyes
and the bulldog jaw.
