But in my mind, I couldn’t understand why
I wish I could see things the way they did
The American Way of Life they lived
Because for many, America wasn’t great.
I heard they talking about Making America Great Again
But why would they want to go back in time
When black people were still fighting for basic rights
And segregation was still appearing in the skies
Black people are great, not the America that killed them.
I heard they talking about Making America Great Again
But I don’t understand why they say “again”
Because for women, it wasn’t so great
Maybe is the voting rights they are against
Or maybe is the way we know we are great.
I heard they talking about Making America Great Again
But love wasn’t so great to want that again
Because LGBTTA weren’t allowed to exist
In a straight line we were forced to live
And LGBTTA’s love is too great to want to hide it away.
I heard they talking about Making America Great Again
But for whom was it great?
Is it the white America they want again?
The homophobia and the patriarchy they call great?
That, my friends, was only great to them.
